MappaPlan ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We collect minimal data and do not sell it to third parties.

Information We Collect

IP-Based Location Detection

When you visit MappaPlan, we automatically detect your approximate geographic location using your IP address. This is done through a third-party service, ipapi.co, which is GDPR-compliant. We use this information solely to personalize your trip planning experience — for example, determining whether to show international travel options or passport-related questions.

We do not store your IP address or precise location. The city-level approximation is used only for the duration of your session and is not associated with any persistent user profile.

Trip Preferences

When you use the trip planner, we collect your answers to planning questions (destination, budget, travel dates, group size, etc.) and send them to Anthropic's Claude AI to generate your trip plans. These preferences are not stored after your session ends.

Email Address (Optional)

If you choose to receive price drop alerts, we collect your email address. This is entirely voluntary. We use this email only to send you notifications about the trip you saved. We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.

How We Use Your Information

• To generate personalized trip plans via Anthropic's Claude AI
• To show geographically relevant travel options (domestic vs. international)
• To send price alerts if you opted in with your email
• To improve the MappaPlan experience through aggregated, anonymized usage patterns

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process data on our behalf:

• Anthropic (claude.ai) — Processes your trip preferences to generate itineraries. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to data processed through their API.
• ipapi.co — Provides IP-based geolocation. Only your IP address is shared; no other personal data is transmitted.
• Vercel — Hosts MappaPlan. Vercel may log request metadata including IP addresses per their standard infrastructure practices.

Data Retention

We do not maintain a user database. Trip preference data is processed in real time and discarded after your session. If you provided an email address for price alerts, we retain only that email address and your saved trip summary until you unsubscribe.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws including:

• GDPR (EU/UK): Right to access, correct, or delete your personal data; right to object to processing; right to data portability.
• CCPA (California): Right to know what personal information is collected; right to delete; right to opt out of sale (we do not sell data).

Cookies

MappaPlan does not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. We may use a session cookie to maintain your planning state during a single visit. No third-party advertising networks are used.

Children's Privacy

MappaPlan is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will update the effective date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of MappaPlan after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
